From boats and puppets at Inle Lake to bicycles...
Inle Lake and Bagan are probably Burma’s biggest attractions and many who come on short visits will often only visit these two sights with possibly Mandalay in between.
This is a shame, as although there’s no denying the appeal, they are without doubt, the most affected areas and there’s so much of ‘raw’ Burma out there and we found these parts more charming and appealing.

Politics in the Sticks
On our way to Inle Lake, one of the major tourist stops in Myanmar, we decided to stop for a night in a tiny town it’s probably safer not to name.

Searing heat, silly hats and a bit of an uphill...
Little Britain Burma-style (Pyin Oo Lwin) was a strange town that reminded me more of the wild west than the quintessential, quiet, British hill station we’d been expecting. Horses and very rickety carriages dominated the streets but it was still a dusty and busy place.

With southern Burma under our belts it was time to go to up north.
